Fuel your fire … get more out of life!

It can sometimes feel a little isolated being your own boss especially if you work from home.
If you’re looking to connect with supportive, like-minded people and would appreciate a boost then ParentPreneurs is a good place to start! The amount of passion, commitment and energy at the meetings never ceases to amaze and inspire me. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve just had a lightbulb moment and your business idea is still in your head or whether your business is further progressed. You can benefit from forging meaningful relationships and having the opportunity to share your story and exchange ideas. I know I always come home after a meeting with something valuable to action.

Motivation is the energy that drives you to achieve your life’s purpose and goals. As parents and business owners we need a tonne of it so that both our children and our business ventures flourish.
We are all driven by different things although a common theme amongst ParentPreneur members naturally is family. We all experience peaks and troughs in our motivation. We can feel elated when we are achieving our goals and generating momentum … or we can feel overwhelmed and get distracted with things that don’t really contribute to our vision.

So how can you keep your fire fuelled? Here are seven top tips to help you sustain your motivation so you can move forward one step at a time.

1. Are you experiencing towards or away from motivation?
You may want to avoid a particular pain or you may be working towards a reward. Either way, it’s fine but consider thinking about it positively as you will get more consistent results. Visualise what you want – remember to use all your senses and make it real!

2. How would you know if you were motivated to achieve something?
We exhibit motivation in different ways physically and emotionally. So think about what would be happening with your body and how you would be feeling. How can you use this knowledge to help you achieve your next goal …

3. Think about a time you were highly motivated to achieve something and you were successful.
Pinpoint what it was in particular that motivated you and kept you motivated. Remember how you felt. How can you use that motivated version of yourself …

4. Think about a situation where your motivation dropped off and you were less successful.
Consider what it was that caused this dip in motivation and how it made you feel. What lessons can you draw from this …

5. Who have been your greatest champions?
Think of three people who have inspired, motivated and had faith in you. Identify what it was that they said to you that was so meaningful. What would they be saying to you now…

6. How do you perform at your best?
Whether you are an early bird or a night owl – you will know when you are the most productive. Use this knowledge to get the best out of yourself and make headway with your goals.

You may take your inspiration from places (people watching in a nice café, visiting an art gallery) or an activity (painting or walking). Your environment can provide positive stimulation and boost your motivation. How can you maximise your performance when working towards your goals …

7. What music really motivates you?
Think about how you can use music to both lift and sustain your motivation.
